Casio F91-W – A Terrorist Favorite

When I bought the Casio F91-W off Amazon, I got it because of the price, design and colour.  When wearing it one day, someone said, “I read terrorists use that watch for bombs”.  What??

Okay, before we go there let’s begin this blog by saying, you don’t have to buy an expensive watch to wear an an icon.

Case in point, the Casio F91-W.  With decades of history and proven reliability this watch has stood the test of time and continues to be one of Casio’s best-sellers.  When I say reliability I mean it.  There have been several real-life torture tests performed and it passed with flying colors.  Although not a G-Shock, it’s just as durable.

When I purchased the watch from Amazon for less $20 my expectations weren’t high. Once it arrived, I tried it on and was really impressed with the look and feel.  It’s so light that it barely feels like I’m wearing a watch!  For casual wear, the color orange really pops and is a nice accessory with a pair of jeans and hoodie.

Being a watch-lover, I’ve been watching various watch enthusiasts online and was shocked to see this watch in many watch collectors’ watch boxes.

So, here I am with a watch that only costs a few dollars and think, I wonder how this compares to a luxury watch?  So, I did a comparison of the Breitling Superocean 44 vs the Casio F91-W.  At first glace, you might think I’m crazy but watch my video review and see how this little Casio stands up against a big luxury brand.

Okay if this hasn’t convinced you to go buy one, it is also a popular watch worn by Hollywood stars. Here’s Seth Rogen wearing it in Pineapple Express and Jim Carrey in I Love You Phillip Morris.

If you don’t like the band, there are some amazing nato straps you can buy from Amazon to make your F91-W unique.

As mentioned off the top, this watch has been chosen by terrorists due to its cheap price and overall accuracy.

Wikipedia states: According to secret documents issued to interrogators at Guantanamo Bay, obtained[6] and released by The Guardian, “the Casio F-91W digital watch was declared to be ‘the sign of al-Qaeda‘ and a contributing factor to continued detention of prisoners by the analysts stationed at Guantanamo Bay. Briefing documents used to train staff in assessing the threat level of new detainees advise that possession of the F91W – available online for as little as £4 – suggests the wearer has been trained in bomb making by al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.”[7] United States Military intelligence officials have identified the F91W as a watch that terrorists use when constructing time bombs.”

Casio’s F91-W has a dark history which has attracted the interest of both good and bad. A great example of that is President Obama and Osama Bin Laden.
