This may be the one time I can say, size doesn’t matter! Made in Australia, the RØDE VideoMicro has an all-metal body, requires no battery, has a cardiod pattern, includes a shock-mount, furry windshield and 3.5mm ouput connector. For $80 this is a quality, value-priced mircophone that does a solid job.
Because of it’s small size, it easily fits onto any DSLR or video camera without getting in the way. Rode boasts, “The microphone body is made from aluminum, giving it a high level of RF rejection. The shock-mount features a suspension structure composed of a hard-wearing thermoplastic, it is far more effective at minimizing unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than traditional elastic suspensions. Virtually indestructible, it never sag, snap, wear out or require rethreading to maintain its effectiveness.” If you are a vlogger this is perfect for you.
For those audiophiles out there, the only criticism I can give for this microphone is the slight hiss you can hear. If you have constant sound like background sound, voice or other ambience then it’s barely noticable. However, if you are recording in a very quiet space you will hear a slight hiss. By no means is this a showstopper but something you should be aware of before buying.
Thousands of YouTubers use Rode’s products for their overall value and quality. Even YouTuber of the year Casey Neistat uses Rode’s products.
If you are looking for a quality affordable microphone for daily video use then this is the product for you. You can buy from Amazon for only $80 Canadian Dollars.
